This is a novella. Great for the holiday season when we all need a little Christmas cheer to brighten the holiday hustle and bustle.

To start off with this book was a fast passed and page turner. Jefferson and Veronica are causally dating . When Jefferson has to fly out of town to handle old business from someone in his past. It leaves Veronica vulnerable to what could he possibly be hiding. Little did she know that the “surprise” was not just a shock to him but something that could either tear them apart or bind them for life. They both have to learn to grow together in “A Christmas Miracle for Veronica.”

BLURB:
Two weeks before Christmas, Jefferson Ramsey receives a call that changes his life forever. His ex-fiancée tells him she’s dying and he has a five-year-old daughter. He must come to Florida right away, so the state can’t take Sarah away. Shortly after Jefferson arrives, his ex-fiancée dies, leaving a devastated and scared little girl. Can he raise Sarah and do it alone?

Veronica Harrison is definitely not in the holiday mood…until she gets a call from the man in her life. Jefferson has returned from his mysterious trip and wants to discuss something important with her. The last thing she expects is a marriage proposal…and a child to go along with it.

Would a sudden alliance be enough to create a family not only for Sarah, but for them as well? Dare she hope their friendship will blossom into a love that’s worth the risk?

I have thoroughly enjoyed all 3 books in this series. Fireworks at Midnight was no exception. I only wish it was longer. The others were a little more humourous than this one but this particular novel had more suspense and a more natural flow for Dulcina (Sweets) and Mikal (her best friend’s older brother) to fall in bed with each other. After all, they have known each other for most of their lives and Sweets has had a crush on Mikal since puberty. Mikal’s feelings have been very much the same since he realized she wasn’t a teenager anymore as well. However, he is an enforcement agent who could get her in trouble for her precognitive abilities she has not registered as having and her secret extracurricular activities at night in the big city. When Mikal finds out, she will be in a world of trouble. Mikal is so overprotective but in a way that makes him incredibly sexy and irresistible. Dulcina is so worried about the rumors of what the enforcement agency does to pre-cogs though that she keeps avoiding the situations that result in them kissing as she sees them in advance. I love how he can use his air elemental powers in ways I had never considered. Very hot. I do wish this had been expanded into a longer novel though. There were so many elements introduced that could have made this more suspenseful and drawn out the hotness just a little tantalizingly longer without compromising the story.

BLURB:

Recent college graduate and part-time cat familiar Dulcina “Sweets” Gato is having the worst New Year’s Eve in living memory. End of year expenses trigger serious cash flow problems, and her microwave just went up in smoke. To make matters worse, her best friend’s overprotective big brother is back in town, and his return threatens to put a huge crimper on her nocturnal activities. The only thing she can look forward to is Madame Eve’s 1-Night Stand service. After all, she’s sick and tired of being a 21-year-old virgin.

Enforcement Agent Mikal Knight is a warlock on a mission. Having finally scored a transfer to Washington, D.C., he’s now at liberty to pursue the object of his desires—his baby sister’s best friend. But first, he has a vigilante to track down and a mysterious matchmaking service to investigate. Sent on an undercover operation, he resigns himself to a pointless 1-Night Stand on New Year’s Eve. As luck would have it, his mystery date’s identity might let him kill several birds with one stone.

A sexy and loving read!

I liked this story. The brothers were sexy and very loving. Vicky shows how strong she is by agreeing to a loveless marriage which is nothing more than an arrangement for money to provide for her sister. After one night with the men she has been lusting over she doesn’t want to go through it. Her sister is a tough cookie too. The day of the wedding she notices how unhappy her sister is and figures out the reason she is giving up her life for. She doesn’t go through with the wedding and makes her way to the guy’s apartment to try and explain things to them.

BLURB:

Vicky Farley is marrying her womanizing boss so he’ll pay for her little sister’s operation, but all she can think about are dark and broody mechanic brothers, Daniel and Jonathan Denton. Her downstairs neighbors might feature heavily in her erotic dreams, but there’ll be no revving of her engine. To save her sister’s life Vicky is prepared to sacrifice her happiness. After an intruder breaks into her flat and Daniel and Jonathan come to her rescue, she has a choice to make: spend her last night as a single woman alone, or let the brothers show her exactly how handy they are with their tools. Passion might rule Vicky’s body, but what about her heart? In the light of day, can she go through with the wedding for her sister’s sake, even though it means losing Daniel and Jonathan forever.

Kara Martinson is a woman in her mid-30’s who has been rejected by everyone that ever mattered to her. Except her son and granddaughter. Meeting Harrison Canton, the father of her son, at her gallery opening in Seattle to find out he never even knew about the baby. His mother had lied to him all these years. Now that she knows Harry never rejected her, it is like a chance to start over and heal all her past hurt but forgiving that kind of betrayal by her parents and her child’s grandmother is not that easy. When push comes to shove, Kara’s instincts tell her to run and run far despite the fact that her grown son who is also a single parent needs her to help him with his daughter with Down Syndrome.

This was a beautiful story of loss, love, pain, redemption, disabilities, acceptance and inclusion. Kara has a long way to go to be happy and whole and to be able to forgive her parents and Harry’s mom. Harry says and does all the right things or so it seemed but even he has to learn how to love Kara the way she needs to be loved rather than trying to get her to fit into a certain mold that everyone in their hometown tries to make her. Kara is way to carefree and spontaneous to ever fit into any stereotype. Her granddaughter Jessica makes the story more complete by demonstrating that people with Down are very happy people with feelings and interests and abilities just like everyone else.
The characters in this story go through so much. Unfortunately, the parents in this story don’t grow up as much as Kara and Harry do but at least they do and do it enough for both them and their parents. This is one of those stories that you can identify with since their lives aren’t perfect just like real life but it shows you that with the right person by your side and the right view on life, you can find happiness by knowing yourself and accepting yourself and your partner the way were you meant to be.

BLURB:

Kara Martinson and Harry Canton weren’t exactly high school sweethearts, but they did share one night neither will ever forget. Twenty-seven years later, Harry surprises Kara at an art gallery opening and discovers he left her with more than just memories when he went away to college. Desperate to connect with the family he never knew existed, Harry convinces his son to move to Stonehill—and pleads with Kara to come, too. Kara hasn’t stepped foot in their hometown since the day she was sent away to a home for unwed mothers. Now Harry’s back in her life and as they put together the pieces of his parents’ betrayal, old heartaches start to feel anew. She wants to be near her family, but returning to Iowa means facing some things…and some people…she isn’t quite ready to. Can Harry convince her to forgive those who betrayed her so they can embrace the future they were robbed of so long ago? Or will the pain of the past be too much for Kara to overcome?

Candy Kavana, a shy and inexperienced divorcee, attends her friend’s surprising adult toy party. Volunteers for demonstrations? In any case, Candy goes from blushing and not knowing what she doesn’t know to picking up guys in bars to bring home and have sex with in a few short weeks. Based on the title I believe this is the first novel in a series. There is no cliff hanger and no hint that the story is unfinished. I really enjoyed the interactions with the guy she brings home from the bar who happens to be her neighbour. This is the only character that there was any real chemistry with or attraction to. He sounded like a great guy. Patient, kind, attentive, interested in the whole package including friendship. But she isn’t ready to settle down and so she makes it very clear to him she is seeing others. However, I just wanted her to focus on her relationship or friendship with her neighbour.

What I did not like about this novel is that it really did not fit the definition of a romance. Other than a couple scenes with Candy’s neighbour, there was no romance in this novel. Not only was there no happily ever after, there wasn’t even a hint that once was coming or being developed in a later book in the series. There is a lot of sex in this book including ménage, solo sex, and voyeurism but it lacks that emotional chemistry who can only get when there is some sort of hint of future encounters. Possibly I might have liked this better if I read this expecting something other than a romance.

BLURB:
